How to prepare for an autism assessment appointment
A short checklist for noting experiences, asking questions and discussing what you need at an appointment.
Write down a few examples
Choose situations that show what everyday life feels like for you. Include when they happened, how they affected you and what helped. Childhood examples can be useful if you remember them.
Ask what to bring
Check whether the service wants any previous reports or input from someone who knows you well. You can take your own notes and ask in advance about adjustments that would make the appointment easier for you.
Make a short list of questions
Ask what the assessment will involve, how you will receive the findings and who can help you with next steps. If you bring a questionnaire summary, label it as an educational self-assessment.
